How to make your own carpet cleaner?

You may be having hyper and messy kids. You also have pets – a dog or two and a few cats-and possibly a few chicken.  So most of the time your carpets are dirty and stinking to the heavens from spills, pet urine and other kinds of dirt.

Then again you are one of those do-it-yourself (D-I-Y) nerds who cannot think of employing a professional carpet cleaner or hire a carpet cleaning machine or buy carpet cleaning solution.

Your own carpet cleaner

Simple brush

You may use materials readily available near you like reeds or tree branches to come up with a brush. This you can use to sweep the carpet of any food droppings, mud or other particles.

Carpet cleaning solutions

There are many recipes, which D-I-Y fanatics like you can use to come up with your own carpet cleaner.

Ingredients

Solution A

White vinegar – White vinegar, which is renowned for removing even the toughest of the stains, including those caused by pets, also contains deodorizers and is safe on most fabrics.

Salt – It is good at binding up stains, including tough ones like red wine or cranberry juice. You can pour it on the stain and let it dry for 15 minutes and then vacuum-clean it before applying the carpet cleaner spray.

Lavender essential oil – Safer around children and pets, it has greater deodorizing properties and kills bacteria and viruses in your carpets.

Preparation

Mix one cup of white vinegar and two cups of water in a large spray bottle. Add two teaspoons of salt and 15 drops lavender essential oil into the now vinegar water solution in the spray bottle.

Close the bottle and shake well. Try the mixture by spraying it in an innocuous area of the carpet and let to dry and then vacuum clean. If the results are encouraging, spray the carpets evenly and directly on the stains. Also, let the carpets to dry and vacuum clean them.

Solution B

Preparation

Put one teaspoon dish washing liquid into a spray bottle then add a tablespoon of white vinegar, a cup of warm water and a teaspoon of baking soda and then quickly close the cup on the top of the spray bottle. Vacuum clean an innocuous areas and gently clean it with a sponge to see if it affects the carpet’s colour or texture before cleaning the whole carpet. Using towel to dab and rub, spray the dirt area and start cleaning.

Solution C

Mix 100 grams (g) of brown sugar and 300g lemon peels and a litre of tap water into a bottle and then shake it well. Noting the date you are preparing the mixture, keep it for 90 days and then sieve the solution using a clean cloth. Then use it to clean your carpet.

Warning: Always first read carefully the carpet cleaning machine for warranty notes. Some manufacturers give specific instructions on what type of product you can use to enjoy the warranty.
